So, what do you eat in London? Or perhaps the real question is, what don't you eat? They say that London has some of the best food in the world, and it's not without reason. This immigrant nation, which was not known for its amazing cuisine, to say the least, has over the years transformed into an empire of street food markets where you can find almost any exotic dish, often in at least four different places.
Here is my culinary summary of four days in London, filled with all the flavors you shouldn't miss.
Markets
Borough Market - Borough Market is a large food market featuring a variety of delicatessens, shops, and restaurants. It's a haven for food lovers, offering a wide range of fresh produce, gourmet foods, and delicious meals.
Spitalfields Market - Spitalfields Market is a massive indoor food market with dozens of stalls selling dishes from around the world. In addition to food stalls, there are also several fashion shops, homeware stores, and souvenir stands. This market is very popular and often crowded during lunchtime, reflecting its appeal to both locals and tourists.
Coffee, Breakfast, and Sweets
Hideaway Coffee - Hideaway Coffee is a small café tucked away in a hidden alley, offering excellent coffee and amazing fresh pastries. This cozy spot is perfect for those seeking a quiet place to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and a delightful baked treat.
Kaffeine - Kaffeine is a café in the Soho neighborhood offering excellent coffee and an outstanding breakfast menu. This spot is well-known for its high-quality brews and delicious breakfast options, making it a popular choice for both locals and visitors.
Luminary Bakery - Luminary Bakery is a café near Camden Market, offering excellent coffee and amazing pastries. Their cheese scone is like nothing you've ever tasted. A nice bonus is that this café supports a social agenda of helping women in poverty by subsidizing education and providing assistance.
The Steaming Pitcher - The Steaming Pitcher is a small café located in the lobby of an impressive building. The coffee is excellent, but the pastries looked a bit "tired," so we decided to skip them and head to the nearby market instead.
KIN Cafe - KIN Cafe is a small café in the Soho neighborhood, featuring a rich breakfast menu and excellent coffee. This cozy spot is perfect for enjoying a delicious meal and a great cup of coffee.
Buns From Home - Buns From Home is a bakery chain offering decadent pastries that are as indulgent as you can imagine.
Bread Ahead Bakery Borough Market - Bread Ahead Bakery is located in the rear part of Borough Market. Long before you spot the stall on the street, you'll catch the scent of fresh pastries wafting through the air. It's a dream!
Traditional Tea at The Wolseley - The Wolseley is a grand restaurant in the Art Deco style. During lunch hours, they serve a traditional afternoon tea menu featuring a selection of sandwiches, pastries, a variety of teas, and champagne. It's one of the unique and highly recommended experiences in my opinion.
Soft Serve Society - Soft Serve Society is a small ice cream parlor in the Shoreditch neighborhood, offering soft-serve ice creams in American style with various flavors.
Chin Chin Labs - Chin Chin Labs is a chain of ice cream parlors known for their amazing flavors.
Gelateria 3Bis Portobello - Gelateria 3Bis Portobello is recommended in the Notting Hill neighborhood near Portobello Market.
