When I arrived in Athens, I was eager to discover new places, opting not to follow the usual recommended taverns found across various sites and blogs. After thorough exploration, here are my personal recommendations in Athens for food, bars, and leisure.

Located in the Plaka neighborhood on the neighborhood's shopping street, Erato offers traditional Greek food without unnecessary embellishments. It's delicious and authentic.

Díporto Restaurant - A Historic Greek Institution

Díporto is a well-known Greek restaurant operating since the 1940s, located in a small basement adjacent to the central market. The name "Diporto" translates to "two doors," named after the two large arched doors that lead into the restaurant. It's a place where each day's menu is prepared fresh, without a printed menu, and where English is not spoken. Visitors enter, settle in, and enjoy delicious food straight from the pot.

Aspro Alogo Restaurant - Family-Owned Gem in Plaka

Aspro Alogo is a small, family-owned restaurant nestled in the charming neighborhood of Plaka. We had heard several recommendations before visiting, and while the food was pleasant, it didn't exceed our expectations. Considering the numerous positive reviews, we acknowledge that we might have visited on an off day. Therefore, I prefer to leave it here and let you decide for yourself.

Known for its impressive menu and excellent wine selection, Aleria provides a sophisticated dining experience. The restaurant itself exudes a romantic ambiance, especially recommended seating in the garden area for a quieter and more intimate atmosphere.

Materia Prima wine bistro - Elevated Wine Bar

Materia Prima Wine Bistro is a high-level wine bar known for its excellent sommelier service and recommendations of local wines. The food is also highly regarded for its delicious flavors, making it a prime destination for wine enthusiasts seeking quality drinks and gourmet bites.

Minnie The Moocher Cocktail Bar is a large establishment with a cool atmosphere. You can sit outside on the street or inside. They serve high-quality cocktails and delicious food.

Clumsies Cocktail Bar has earned 3rd place in the ranking of the world's best bars for 2020. It's a stylish cocktail bar reflecting contemporary trends. The place is spacious and beautiful, offering excellent cocktails. The food is delicious, but note that the portions are quite large!

Vintage Wine bar & Bistro - Wow! Beyond being a professional establishment with knowledgeable sommeliers, the food here was simply perfect! It's a fancy place with an atmosphere suitable for both a romantic date and hanging out with friends.
